Citizen, vintage's best-kept secret
When it comes to Japanese vintage watches, Seiko dominates the conversation. Yet Citizen produced timepieces just as remarkable, often at more affordable prices. From our workshop in Herstal, we have seen interest in vintage Citizen watches explode.
The Citizen heritage
Founded in Tokyo in 1918, Citizen is one of the largest watchmakers in the world. The brand was a pioneer: the first Japanese automatic movement, the first solar-powered watch (Eco-Drive). It was in the 1960s to 1990s that Citizen produced its most collected pieces.

The essential references

Citizen Promaster Diver's: sturdy case, 200 m water resistance, reliable automatic movements. The NY0040 and NY0084 can be found between €150 and €300.

Citizen Eagle 7: elegant automatic with day and date, from the 1970s-80s. Typical price: €80 to €200. Excellent value for money.

Citizen Bullhead Chronograph: the 1970s chronographs with pushers on top of the case have become highly sought after. Expect €300 to €800.
Citizen Homer and Custom: dress watches from the 1960s-70s, gorgeous dials, under €150.
Why vintage Citizen is gaining value
The vintage Citizen market is catching up with Seiko's. Prices are rising because collectors are discovering the exceptional quality of these watches. Buying a vintage Citizen today means getting in before the rise.
